DETAILS: This game is a home use only
unit that was originally given to Jeff
Gusman. Jeff worked at Atari in 1983
and was directly involved with implementing
the musical score into the game. This
Firefox traveled to New York with Jeff when
he moved back East, and it stayed with him
for some 20+ years. It was then sold
to a collector in Los Angeles, who then sold
it to his cousin. I then acquired it,
and have been trying to beat the previous
owner's high score but I've not yet
succeeded.
COSMETIC
RESTORATION: Nothing was needed to
be done to this game cosmetically.
ELECTRICAL REPAIRS/UPGRADES:
Replaced both power filter
capacitors and the coin reject button lamps.
Also, the Phillips VP931 laserdisc player
was sent out to an ex-Phillips technician
for a complete rebuild and calibration.
MECHANICAL
RESTORATION:
Cleaned and
lubed the yoke controller per the manual,
and cleaned and serviced the coin mechs.

FAST FACT: At the ATEI (Amusement
Trades Exhibition International) show in
1984, Atari presented a huge simulation
model of the FireFox cockpit with the video
display on a screen situated some 8 feet
from the cockpit's nose. Unfortunately, this
simulation model was never available for
play in the arcades.
