DETAILS: This game was obtained from
a semi-local collector friend who not only
rebuilt and upgraded the monitor, but also
cared for it extremely well too.
COSMETIC
RESTORATION: It's doubtful
that this game was ever put on location
judging by it's condition, but it is
possible it was briefly out in public but
quickly pulled due to the minimal playtime
it got due to its extreme difficulty.
But regardless, there was nothing that was
needed to be done to it, other than replace
the control panel overlay which had the
usual cracking at the bends. I was
able to obtain a
NOS control panel overlay
and after applying it, this game looked like
it had just rolled out of the factory.
ELECTRICAL REPAIRS/UPGRADES: Replaced the
power cord, the power filter capacitor, the fluorescent lamp &
lamp starter, the coin door reject button
lamps, and replaced the capacitors on Regulator/Audio board. The
Wells-Gardner K6100 color vector monitor had
already had its capacitors replaced and a
low voltage protection circuit had been
installed as well.
MECHANICAL
RESTORATION: Cleaned the leaf
switch buttons and cleaned and serviced the
coin mechs.
SERIAL
#UR00091 This game has matching
serial numbers on the cabinet, monitor
chassis, game board, R/A pcb and the power
supply.
FAST FACT: A Gravitar unit appears
in the 1983 movie 'WarGames', in the 1983
movie 'James Bond 007 - Never Say Never
Again' (the Gravitars in this movie were
European model Gravitars) and in the 1987 movie 'Death Wish 4 -
The Crackdown'.
