DETAILS: I was very lucky to acquire
this game from its previous owner. The
game had been on hold (for more money than I
offered) for some time, but the initial
buyer ran into some complications and thus I
became 2nd in line. This game is
arrived incredibly packaged and in really
beautiful all-original condition.
Dave Theurer
(creator of Tempest, Missile Command, and
others) was the project lead for this game.
Breighton ("Rusty") Dawe and Cris Drobny
also contributed. The following are
some excellent websites devoted to I, Robot
which have extensive technical help as well
as a complete game play synopsis (256 maps
total exist in I, Robot!)
COSMETIC
RESTORATION: Nothing was needed to
be done to this game.
ELECTRICAL REPAIRS/UPGRADES:
Nothing was needed. The previous owner
replaced and socketed the original 4164
drams that are notorious for causing
graphics issues.
MECHANICAL RESTORATION:
Nothing was needed. The previous owner
had already serviced the coin mechs and
cleaned and lubed the hall effect joystick.
The only think I did do was
to recalibrate the joystick in the self-test menu.
SERIAL
#UE00234 This game has matching
serial numbers on the cabinet, monitor
chassis, monitor CRT, game board set, the
board set cage, & the switching power
supply board.
FAST FACT: Technically, a near
decade ahead of its time, I, Robot was the
first game to feature 3-dimensional, filled
polygon graphics, as opposed to the
wireframe graphics adopted by other
3-dimensional games of the time. The
concept of the player being able to switch
viewpoints was also a first as well.
