DETAILS: This game was obtained from
one of game's programmers, Dave Ralston, and
it was bought though a long-time collector
friend who graciously hand delivered it as
well. Atari made only one other
prototype Paperboy, and that is in the hands
of the Paperboy project leader, Breighton
("Rusty") Dawe.
Both of the
prototype Paperboys are housed in Return of
the Jedi cabinets. The power setup
incorporates a traditional linear power
supply, 2 Regulator/Audio boards, as well as
Atari's switching power supply board.
The space that all that equipment takes up,
combined with the already very limited space
existing in the interior of this style
cabinet, made the bottom cavity of the cabinet
the only possible option for housing the
game boards.
ELECTRICAL
RESTORATION: Replaced the power
cord, the fluorescent lamp and lamp starter,
and the coin reject button lamps.
MECHANICAL
RESTORATION: Cleaned and lubed the
handlebar controller per the manual and
cleaned and serviced the coin mechs.
NOTEWORTHY: Breighton Dawe
attended a live chat at CoinOpSpace.com on
6/6/09, and for those wanting to read

FAST FACT: Paperboy was the first
(and only) profit-share Atari coin-op title,
and because it never fell off in its
revenue, Atari made more than 10x as much as
they would have if they had sold them
outright.
