I Robot Joystick hack?

Hi folks. The Hall Effect stick on my I Robot is the older original ones
and is less than satisfactory. Anyone ever hack in another stick? I've
been thinking about the ones on the newest arcade games. The ones on
Gauntlet Legends and Blitz. It's essentially a sinistar stick I believe,
but dramatically updated.

Any thoughts? Could it work. If I did it, everything would be reversable
and the stick should mount right in there.
