Q*Bert help

 
I have a Q*Bert here with a problem. Worked well until I turned it on
tonight.
 
Anyhow, when it turns on it displays a white screen with no graphics. I
can play the game. When Q*Bert dies in the game, the background graphics
are displayed - no sprites. The background is still white, not black as
it should be, otherwise all else is there other than sprites. When
Q*Bert gives up his last life, the high score table is displayed, again
with the white background instead of black.
 
Anyone seen anything like this before?
