Pole Position displays just a blue screen ?

After running most of the day (son's birthday party, kids loved it) my Pole
Position displays just a blue screen.

I know there are horror stories on this game. Is there a troubleshooting
flowchart anyplace ? Google search on "pole position blue screen" shows a
number of people asking this quesiton, but no answers.
