Generally this error will be reported if the UUT is either not powered
up or has some other major problem.
Does the game board work?
Is it powered up? Are you sure?
What board is it?

I would ensure the UUT is powered and *try a different UUT* as well.

Oh, is pin 1 at the correct end of the socket?

IIRC that requires a second (working) identical POD.

Er, I know what the manual means, but I'm not sure what the sentence
above means:
You start off with "manual says to..."
and end with "don't see anything in the manual about..." ???

You can scroll though the entire setup menu and all of the options
you mentioned above are in there. You can set them all to "NO" if
you like. Near as I can tell, that's what you seem to be saying the
manual is trying to tell you to do.

Did I mention making sure the UUT is powered up? :-)
