AFAIK, HC = High speed CMOS, LS = Low Power Schokkety (sp?)
According to what i have read, you can use them interchangeably ONLY if all of
the inputs and outputs are connected (which they probably are, but you'd need
to check!).
The ones that are properly compatible are the 74HCT14 as HCT = High speed Cmos
with TTL compatible inputs and outputs (hence HCT).
Best bet would be to try it, although if you're ordering in, i guess this is
not the best route!
