I just picked up a Battlezone Caberet yesterday, non-working. Fired it up and
self-test indicated a bad RAM chip, replaced the chip and everything came up!
Only thing was that it still showed I had a bad RAM in location A3 (chip
421). So, I downloaded the image (from gamearchive.com) and burned it on a
2716 and verified the data on the EPROM with the image...both with a
checksum of AADD (if I remember correctly).
Pulled out the old PROM and put in the newly burned EPROM. Nothing came
up...LED's on both boards (and the monitor) are lit. I thought I heard a
crack like something going up in smoke so I quickly powered down and put the
original PROM back in. Now it acts as if the first RAM chip is bad.
Was this just a fluke or is a 2716 not the correct chip to use? I notice that
all the ROMS are grouped together except these 2 (A3 and B/C3) are these two
different or something?
