They use Burr-Brown DAC80s. I want to say that they're 8-bit
DACs, but I'm drawing a blank. I have my Burr-Brown databook at
home, but I think the datasheet may even be up on spies.
As far as I remember, the DAC80 was a "workhorse" 8-bit
R-2R DAC (Burr-Brown STILL makes new R-2R DAC products, even today!) It
was a hybrid part -- meaning the package has other stuff on it besudes
just a chip (or there were multiple dies on the package.) It appears in
Burr-Brown's product guide as late as 1991 (maybe later -- that's the
latest one of their product guides that I have.) The DAC800 is a
monolithic direct replacement for it. Both the DAC80 and DAC800
came in current-mode (I, or no suffix) or voltage-mode (V suffix.)
The Cine. monitors will only work with voltage-mode parts.
