I do the same thing also, but you have to be careful of cross
referencing to under spec'd parts.
NTE/ECG will cross reference differently spec'd parts to a single
replacement. The replacement will be the "same or better" spec.
For instance you can have a .5 amp diode and a 1 amp diode crossed to
the same 1 amp part. If you're looking for a replacement for your 1
amp diode and back reference through NTE you might end up with the .5
amp diode.
I just look up any part I back reference to make sure it's still up to
specs for what I need.
