If someone just painted over the original artwork then a simple antique
grade of furniture stripper would clean off the over coat, leaving the
original finish just fine. Consider that the over coat has PROTECTED the
original finish all these years...
Test on a rear corner, brush on, let bubble for a second or two, then wipe
off and rinse. Remember to only work on a palm sized area at a time to keep
control.
DO NOT RUSH THE JOB!!!
