Roy is using the CP from the MH I just bought. The really odd thing about
it is that the CP itself was never modified. If you look underneath, the
metal is smooth and unblemished with no evidence that the button holes were
ever moved. The current CPO on it, however, is the standard "Rev A"
placement so the button holes don't line up. You can see a pic of the CP at:
http://www.smalltalksystems.com/MajorHavocPanel.jpg
Since Roy is restoring it and making repro overlays, he has offered to
either make a one-off CPO that matches the current button holes or have the
button holes moved to the traditional locations (the old hole would be
welded shut and smooth on the top surface). My dilemma is whether to modify
the CP or leave it as it is. The game play would be *much* improved with
the common layout (index finger on fire/jump and thumb on shield). I have
been playing it with the current layout and don't care for it much. OTOH,
it is a rare piece in its current state and it would be a shame to modify
it. I'm leaning toward modifying the CP ('cause I want to play it - a lot
<g>). What would you do, if it was your machine?
Can anyone shed any light on this mystery? Better yet, anyone have a spare
dedicated MH CP with the traditional layout that they would part with? ;-)
