With all due respect to all, the DAC80 was a hybrid and was always an expensive
part. Although it's no big deal to make 20 bit DACs now a days, back then a 12
bit DAC WAS a big deal and trying to make them was expensive. Now they would be
able to crank them out for well under $10 (by making them monolithic instead of a
hybrid), but that option didn't exist back then.
I would say $25 is quite a fair price for the original part.
