I never re-use the mica insulator (except when its an oddball and I don't
have one in the parts drawer).. For the "standard" types you can pick up
100 for next to nothing from most supply places (read -- NOT Radio Shack)..
Oh yeah - is there a solvent that will remove heat sink compound? I
occasionally get monitors where the previous "technician" (I use the term
in a non-flattering way) decided that one tube/transistor would be the
right approach so the entire chassis is covered with the stuff.. And it
is highly resistant to removal. (and yes, when I'm done I like the
monitor to be nice and clean.. I'm sure medication could help me out here..)
