It is possible to test the board outside of the cage. You
would need to hook up a power supply capable of +5V and -5V
to the appropriate points (across C49 and C48 respectively)
and you'd need a scope to 'see' the output. The opamp, U8,
might be able to drive high impedance headphone speakers,
maybe, but I'd use a scope. To exercise a phrase you'd
need to set it's 5 bit code on D0 thru D4, the inputs to
the latch U21 (74LS273) then toggle U21's CLK input, by
quickly grounding then releasing the CLK pin (pin 11).
The codes for the phrases are shown below. Review the
schematics before you try this. Good Luck.
Great Info...Thanks !
I tried this last night with limited success. On U21 I lifted
pins 3, 4, 7, 8, 13 (D0-D4 respectively) and either tied them
to Grd or +5 and tripped the clock like you said. I could get
it to say phrases, but it would lock up and I'd have to reboot
the game several times. I was actually better off leaving pin 13
floating, that caused less lockups and netted me more speech.
I walked it trough a few phrases but some times it would switch
the phrase with out me changing D0-D4. I'm going to get some
better mini-clips today and try again tonight.
