Peter,
I believe the answer is yes. I use the monochrome output to run Tempest
boards on my bench test monitor (TEK 603 x-y display) and it works fine. I
have never tried it with a real B&W monitor, but I don't see why it
shouldn't work there too. However, unless you are sure that the output is
in the acceptable voltage range (ie not pinned to +/- 15v like a few boards
I've seen recently), I'd test it with your VOM or o'scope before connecting
it to the B&W monitor.

Subject: VECTOR: Potentially stupid Tempest question
Dear all,
I have a few Tempest boards that i'd like to test. Not having any spare
colour xy monitors to use on my bench i'm wondering if i could hook it
up to a monochrome xy monitor.
>From looking at the schematics a while back i noticed that there is an x
output, y output , the three colours and a monochrome output *which is
not used).
Basically my question is ......can i use the monochrome output to drive
the Z input on my Asteroids monitor??
All suggestions welcome
thanks
Peter
