I've found having an actual HV probe a great help to fixing monitors in
general. I got an old Heathkit one, with built-in meter, from the Heathkit
mailing list for about $20. (That list often has people, getting older,
selling off the stuff they've built over the years).
You can discharge the tube safely, AND check the HV output. What a bonus !
