I've had a couple of Asteroids boards with sound problems. There is a
pretty good troubleshooting doc with some details concerning sounds out
there that I'll post the link to when I get home this afternoon.
I'm not the best at board repair, so I sent it out to Dick Millikan. There
are others who do Asteroids repairs, such as Alex Yeckley and John...can't
remember the last name. Can post more info on them later today as well.
Many of the problems seem like they're due to bad caps in the sound
circuits, which are on the upper middle and upper right of the board, when
looking at the component side with the edge connector to your right (the
normal orientation of the board when it is mounted.) The schematics can be
found on spies, and are fairly well detailed in respect to the sound circuits.
