Re: Rip Off

Roy,

Rip Off uses the same main board, power supply, wiring harness and
monitor that most of the other standard Cinematronics games like Armor
Attack and Star Castle use so finding parts isn't too bad. The one part
that is specific is the sound board.

As to repairing the monitors, I think they are the easiest to fix out
of any other monitors vector or raster. The typical failure is that one
of the output transistors shorted and takes out a resistor and a couple
of tantulum caps. There are a few transistors in the monitor that can be
hard to find but they rarely fail. Don't disconnect the output
transistors and power these monitors up (even though some manuals
reccomend this as a troubleshooting step)

I consider it a keeper. I just brought mine into the house from
storage last night. For some reason they don't turn up all that often in
comparison to Star Castle and Armor Attack. I think somewhere around
$100-$150 is a good place to start for a non working one. You can also
play Armor Attack in the same cab.
