Hello All,
I order a CPO when they first came out and I ended up sending it back.
It appeared that the quality of the material was good and the print quality
was high. It had no-name adhesive on the back which concerned me (after
trying so many different adhesives with my CPOs) but I haven't heard of any
problems with it from anyone.
There were two things that upset me. First, the font is truly off. I can't
imagine why they used a serif font. (Ok, some of the letters of the original
font have a tiny, stylized serif, but, in my opinion, even Arial would have
been better than the font that was chosen.)
Second. The colors. (This was my mistake - I'll explain).
I had been working on my Tempest CPO for a stupid long time (>125 hours)
getting the details *exactly* correct. One of the interesting things was
that where the blue and pink blobs overlapped, it made purple. (all color
descriptions simplified for this email ;). When Steve announced his I gave
up completing my and ordered one from him. When it arrived, where the blue
and pink overlapped, it made, well, slightly darker pink. To me this was
wrong. It completely changed the appearance of the CPO for me and I found it
unacceptable. So I sent it back.
A couple of weeks later, I went to an auction and there was a Tempest. It
had an original CPO on it with the correct fonts and all, except the colors
were just like Steve's!?! I then saw another, and another and another
Tempest like this, all colored like Steve's. This caught me completely
off-guard, so I did some research.
My CPO was based on scans of Rev B, Rev C and Rev D of the original CPOs. (I
could probably tell you the difference if interested.) In any case, all of
the CPOs that I saw that were colored like Steve's had no rev on them. My
guess is that they were first run Ataris. When they produced later runs,
they either fixed or enhanced the process to produce nicer colors.
So, where my colors were true to the later revs from Atari, Steve's *is*
true to the first run from Atari.
To see the difference, check out my CPO art (note - center swirl not
completed) versus Steve's CPO.

In any case, now that I understand the color difference I would consider
buying one from Steve again. As I did say at the beginning, the quality of
production was excellent, and Steve is a trusted and honorable seller.

p.s. - no, I don't have any CPOs. to sell.
