Re: Tempest CPO repro quality

I am glad this topic came up. I own a Tempest. Last year I replaced my
marquee and CPO with NOS ones. I always wanted to compare the repros the
arcade shop has. Well I got my wish at the Winston/Salem auction 2 weeks ago.
The arcade shop was there with both overlays and many other repros for other
machines. To my luck there was a Tempest in the auction. One word folks,
suck, they are awful repros to say the least. On the original the atari logo
for the marquee is somewhat smooth edged, on his it was jagged. The colors
were off some and the lines were just to fat in places. To add to it, the
texture of the surface was thick and cloudy. Look for the real deal, they are
hard to find, but they are out there and worth every penny! If you are not a
perfectionist, these are ok I guess. Good luck.
