Yeah, it'd be the same "engine". The difference would be the front-end that
interprets the "play" commands from the rest of the hardware. For the
Cinemat stuff just a little microcontroller and a latch would probably work
fine. I've got a lot of Atmel AT89C2051's from an aborted project (and the
AVR's that I use on the MultiJAMMA), so I'd probably just go with one of
those.
If I wasn't perpetually burried under self-imposed projects I'd give it a
try with an Analog Devices DSP (which would be kinda fun 'cause it could add
some reverb and whatnot too)...
