Paul,
The +/-22v is needed for the vector generator output. In Asteroids, they
fed the 36vac (18-0-18) into the PCB and then ran it through the on-board
rectifier (4 diodes) to produce the unregulated +/-22 on the board itself.
The +/-22 is then used as input to the +/-15v regulators for the DACs and
Amps in the final output section. In later games, they moved this 36vac ->
+/-22v conversion onto the Audio/Regulator 2. This is what the right side
of the A/R II is all about. Therefore, you'd have to retrofit an A/R II
into your asteroids cabinet and make some harness conversion adapters
depending on what voltages the boards need.
Good luck,
-Chris

Subject: Re: VECTOR: Red Barron Board?
There is only one Red baron set in Mame and my labels match that set.
BTW - I checked the pinouts to see if I could test it in my Asteroids,
but it
requires 22 volts. I'm hoping this is only used for the sound section
and I
can make a harness supplying the +5, -5 and +12 from the AR board.
Otherwise I can't test it. Still wouldn't be able to test the sound
section
but it would be a start.
Cheers
Paul
