Jed Margolin (former Atari hardware engineer) mentions on r.g.v.a.c. that
he's added some pages to his site with info about his and Atari patents. on
the page describing the projects he's patented, he mentions an XY game he
worked on called Tomcat. Here's a excerpt:
"After Firefox I worked on a new XY flying game called TomCat (1984).
Despite its advanced features it never made it out of the lab because XY had
been pronounced 'dead'. The advanced features included a 68010 main
processor, a Texas Instruments TMS32010 DSP, a clock/calendar IC, as well
as a parallel game link that allowed several games to be linked together. I
have the only prototype plus the parts to put another one together."
He's also posted some Atari meeting minutes with some game design discussion
that makes for some excellent reading.
