hi all..
i picked up a vectorgame today off a friend, 'Stellar Castle' by
elettronolo..
it is actually a cinematronics 'Star Castle' copy or bootleg.. but this is
my question, is it a copy or a bootleg? It has an Italian made hantarex
vector monitor, but it is very different from the 'planet' bootleg
asteroids monitor i have already come across which i had believed was a
hantarex... i believe this hantarex monitor has the built-in DAC to play the
cinematronics copy board too...
from what i can see the game board is a direct copy of the cinematronics
board, with only a few differences..
i literally picked the machine up and shoved it in my storage so didn't get
a great deal of time to stare at the monitor or take any pics..
also, when the machine was found, it had no marquee, and a home-made bezel,
and a poor overlay on the screen. So in the meantime a proper starcastle
marquee, bezel an screen overlay have been installed, the control panel is
however still stellar castle...
it works kindof.. one of the sounds is stuck on (can't be too hard to sort)
and it had jiggly vectors, however powering it up before moving it, there
were sparks and fizzing coming out of the anode cap.. it was a bit dusty in
the back there, and a damp atmosphere (in a garage) so hopefully just
cleaning that will at least get it back to the jiggly vectors stage.. i have
been assured it is playable, although the jiggly vectors piss you off... oh,
along with the annoying sound that is stuck on :) i'm confident i can
rectify both problems.
anyhow.. i'm looking for more info on this if anyone knows anything about
this elettronolo company, and whether they produced it under license or just
bootlegged it.. i know the same people bought the license off Leland to make
dragon's lair 2 machines in europe later on in the early nineties, but that
is about the only other time i have heard that company name mentioned..
thanks!
