RE: Finally Cosmic Chasm

Hi all,

I finally got my Cosmic Chasm running this weekend. Thanks to the members of vectorlist who helped me out!

A few items of note:

1) I applied David Fish's modification to my Cosmic Chasm boardset to run it with a regular G08 monitor. I must say that I was not nearly as disappointed as I thought I would be. Other than a few curves to the lines, I was rather pleased with the results! Which leads me to believe that it may be possible to use a standard G08 with some of the WG6400 games with possibly similar results.

2) The original optical shaft encoder was missing on mine, but I was able to get a similar encoder from a Cinematronics Viper arcade game.

Cosmic Chasm uses: PC66D-256-5
Viper users: PC62D-256-5

I'm not sure, but I think the 62 stands for power consumption. Regardless, the encoder works as a perfect replacement for the game.

3) Steven Gregory at Arcade Shop Amusements (www.arcadeshop.com) has a Cosmic Chasm NOS control panel and has plans to repro it. Bug him often so he will move the reproduction of the overlay up on his priority list :-)

You can see the restoration effort of this game at:

Lots of pics, so load at your own risk :-)
