No no -- I don't mean the entire screen is at the same intensity. The Z
amplifier changes value as the beam moves, so it cam be bright at the top
and dim at the bottom.
I mean for any given pixel (ie -- any given moment the beam is on) a color
is either off, or on at the intenity set by the Z output. You can have red
and blue on for a half-inensity purple, but you can't have a pixel red at
full and blue at half for a . . . deep red-blue, or whatever that would
make.
This is why the Z test point gives a perfect b&w representation of the
screen.
