Yes, this plug selects the primary windings on the transformer, without it
the transformer will not be connected to the input power correctly. One
thing to note is that there are different coloured wires for each voltage
region (110, 220, 240 etc) so check the manual first. UK / 240 uses the
brown wire plug - the US may be yellow but DEFINITELY check the manual
first!

This may seem like a really dumb question, but I've never come across this
problem before and I've owned three Tempests (this current one being my
third).

I'm getting no AC or any other voltages to the monitor or the PCBs
(including the AR II). Looking at the manual (page 48, upright), I see that
it shows a 9-pin header in the center of the block with a molex connector
labeled "Volt. Plugs" connecting to it. Mine is missing. Could this be the
cause of my problem?

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but I've been up for almost 40
hours now catching up on appraisals and I'm not exactly thinking with a
clear head right now :)
