Subject: RE: VECTOR: Lunar Lander questions
IME, so-called "Slam Switches" had different functions on different games.
For example (IIRC):
o On Asteroids, closing the switch would cause the game to emit a long
*BEEP*; perhaps to warn people that someone that the game was being messed
with...? I do not know if it caused the game to ignore coin inputs or
anything like that.(*)
o On Pac-Man, it was actually the same as the test switch (hold it
closed to see what I mean); but closing and opening it rapidly had the net
effect of resetting the game.
o Others simply reset the game when closed.
It makes sense (to me) that the switch would cause the game to ignore
coin inputs; it prevents anyone from "beating" credits into the game. It
likely had the unfortunate side effect of causing people to lose credits if
they were simply trying to get a stuck coin through the coin mech. :/
--- (*) Story: coining up an Asteroids through the coin door was an interesting experience -- you had to open the door, pull the inner switch's plunger (called a "Cheat Interlock", IIRC) to make the game power back up, coin it up, and then close the door fast enough such that the game did not lose power long enough to reset, but also did not emit that damn *BEEP* sound and attract the attention of others! :) --- Peace! Sorry, Not me. I thought it was a tilt switch that would reset the game. But it seems to be more of a switch that disallows your adding coins for a few seconds. I thought I would try you guys for some confirmation of that. Anyone.....
