Yeah, I have the same problem with pins too... A few manufacturers had a
running sequence across all their games so you would be able to tell
'prototype' and 'sample' games by identifying serial number ranges...
Black Knight Proto/Samples (534567-534632)
Alien Poker Production (534750-537312)
Jungle Lord Proto/Samples (537350-537461)
Black Knight Production (537475-549198)
etc...
Others had distinct ranges for each game which theoretically started at
0 and went up to the actual production number.
Atari at least started their serial numbers over for each game didnt'
they (unique to cabinet)? Like for Star Wars..

Unfortunately, Im sure they arbitrarily skipped some numbers to help
disguise their actual production run (the pinball companies did the same)?
