a scope - 50mhz minimum is no toy,
it is the most usefull tool you can have.
i have scopes, probes, a comparater.
but the scope is king.
it will tell you if the power is good, if the clock is good and clean,
it will show you the analog outputs and you can see if a chip's output is within spec.
the only thing better than a scope would be either a cpu-simulator or a logic analyzer that can recognise & analyse the function of a chip you hook it to.
both of those tooltypes cost a fortune.
