Todd, All:
I have the same problem with one of my Tempest boards, i.e., a second
board works perfectly fine with the *same* WG6100 tube -- but #1
features the "pincushion" effect from Todd's pictures, no matter how
the XY pots are adjusted.
A trusted expert once told me that this is a problem with one or more
of the chips in the lower right-hand side of the main board (where the
pots are, i.e., in the A-E 10--13 area), I suppose with DAC-related
functions. Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly which ones he
identified at the time ... (I have been using the good board since
then).
Any thoughts, comments, advice (for Todd or me)?
