RE: CRT tint masks

I've used gels for lighting, and they don't really melt/set like that. They
are designed to stand up to the heat.

At one extreme, I used some to try to tint a halogen lamp, and not even 5
minutes in, the dye was noticeably lighter - the gel was still the same
flexible material when I started.

I think you would be better off getting some tinted acrylic or plexi,
heating it up in your oven then quickly laying it over a tube face.

Ah, that's exactly what they're doing here (scroll halfway down the page)

Basically they heat up a piece of PETG in the oven then drape it over the
desired surface. Now I'd just need to find a source of tinted PETG at a
reasonable price (found 24" x 24" for $25...seemed a little pricey...must
keep looking).

Yeah, I tried that route but wasn't pleased as it didn't stay well and
bubbles were an issue.
