Everyone,
THANKS to all who replied. I tried the pots on the deflection board again
this afternoon. And the video is now solid. I just need to get the gear now
and I will set to go.

He said it goes left-right and up-down plus the whole picture seems to shake
so that doesn't sound like pots to me (or both have to be bad).
If so, I made a video about how that looks here:

more than likely the jitter is a flaky pot for the x or y adjustment.

I don't have a SW
schematic in front of me so I'm
not sure if this will apply, but on Space Duel and several
other Atari vector
games, the video section has two 3-pin regulators (probably
7815 and 7915
that can be replaced with 7812 and 7912).
When one or both of
these regulators fail, the unregulated DC supply going into
the DAC circuit
manifests itself as severe jitter in the
picture.
Also, is your monitor an
Amplifone or a
WG6100? If it is WG6100, dunno what version your
deflection board is,
but if it has the so-called "input protection
circuitry" (not to be confused
with a LV2000), then one of the clamping diodes is probably
pooched. Just
replace all of the 1N914 diodes and the two germanium
diodes (they look the same
as 1N914 except they also have a small yellow or red band
on them maybe) in the
protection circuit or just shotgun the entire board by
replacing them all
since they are so cheap. Replace 1N914 with 1N4148
generic parts.
I have a detailed parts
list with sources
here:

Kind
of both
directions up and down and left and right. I
recapped the boards a long
time ago and I was going to try that to start along with
resoldering the
connectors. I will try to get a video today. But it
did’t look like the
vector lines were moving but that the whole picture was
jumping.

A video would sure help. Could you
describe how it
jumps (left-right/up-down or other
way)?

I have a Star

Amplifone monitor. It has a wintron HV installed and had
worked great for many
years. It has been sitting for a about a year without

played.
I turned
it on to play a few
games and the picture came up and looked great but after
a few seconds the
picture began jumping around and getting shaky. After
about 5-10 minutes it
stopped moving around and looked great again. Then after
a few more minutes it
started jumping around again.
Can you
guys give me a
suggestion on where to start
looking.
Thanks in
advance for any
