I recently pulled my storage unit Star Trek out and repaired it and got
it up and running. In the process I went through 3 power supplies. All
of them failed. The one that lasted the longest went for 2 days.
Granted, they hadn't been run in years and probably needed a cleaning,
but in the process of failing, they took out 2 different sound boards.
I checked the voltages before hooking anything up to them and they were
all good. I really am not too thrilled that I now have 2 bad sound
boards. I don't have the smarts to trouble shoot them (sound boards)
but certainly will go through each of the power supplies and rebuild
each of them.
I think the idea of a switcher replacement board is a great idea. I
have seen numerous Sega vector games with switchers hacked into them and
would prefer a cleaner approach. I am looking forward to your results.
