My standup does this and I believe I checked mame once and it did not do it.

Yes... I have an Omega Race cocktail and it does this a lot as well.
Incidentally I also have a ZVG setup and emulated, the game does NOT do
this. Perhaps Midway's vector generator circuit was badly designed?
