The VDR is nothing more than a 6V MOV.
(mouser part number 576-V12ZA05P)
 
It's been working fine as a direct replacement on my Quantum PCB repro.

That'd be cool-- every display corrector I shipped from the beginning of
time has an open spot on it to add a VDR (typically pulled from the game
board).  Built in market. ;-)
