I did some shopping around and ended up with AVNet.com having the best
prices:

BU406TU 25 @ $.2952

1n5953bg (3w) 25 @ .0923

1n4743a 100 @ .0219

MPSA06 100 @ .0261

Nice deep stock of parts for < $15 J I think I have found my new preferred
distributor.

NTE5100A is 150 volt 1 watt.

Digikey has the 1N5953 for $.48 in singles (38 if you buy 10). Hard to
beat price.

MCM has the BU406 for $7.41, NTE5100A for $2.10 (YIKES).

American Microsemiconductor has BY406 for $3.16, BY406D for $1.80 (use the
D, no harm in it),

It looks like the 406 is a much beefier replacement for the 409. But I am
not sure having the integrated snubber diode is a good idea.

The only 150V zener they have is a 3w. Guess that can't hurt J

mouser.au shows 10 of the BU406D in stock and may have the zener diode as
well.

Anyone have a reasonable source for BU409's? And any ideas of what is
blowing them?

And while I am at it, source for the 150V 1w zeners?

Thanks,

David
