With probes disconnected you should have a bright dot in the center of the
screen. Adjust channel 1& 2 sensitivity to .5V (for starters) and adjust
positions to center the dot. If you don't see a dot try holding the beam
finder button while centering. It shouldn't matter on a analog scope, but
try setting scan speed to something like 5mS per division (yeah, I realize
it shouldn't matter, but it can affect internal blanking and on a digital
scope will make a lot of difference to find the correct sampling time).
Once you have a nice bright centered dot connect your probes to the game
boards X & Y test points and you should at least get something usable on
the screen.
