Ah, freeze spray, that's a good idea. I'll pass it along. Thanks for your
help as well, Rodger.

To be honest, my friend has kind of been dragging his feet on fixing the
monitor, so I don't know if he's tried any of our suggestions yet. I haven't
been pushing him on it as I'm hoping he'll get tired of it and just sell his
cabinet to me - it's one of those Japanese sit-downs, and I'd love to add it
to *my* collection :)

After long periods of contemplation and having another
look at those pics.. the first couple look weird.. but
the last where its almost jumping off the screen and
folding, could be most definitely a cap problem..
without seeing the chassis.. very hard to make a good
assessment..

Could also be a faulty tranny.. a heat related problem
maybe ? have you tried freeze spray yet ? ( and a hair
dryer )
