I would recommend the use of a computer switching power supply, plus wire
up the power to the monitor in such a way that if the +5VDC fails then the
power is cut off, a small 6VDC relay across the +5VDC supply will cover
this, wire the monitor across the Normally Open contacts. Then WHEN (not
if, but when...they ALL will fail sooner or later) the supply fails the
monitor will be shut down immediately. Paranoid people would wire in a
+12VDC relay so that the monitor power is in series with the +5VDC relay to
be safer...a couple of Solid State Relays might be nice here (3 - 36VDC).
