Well, it WILL cause the picture to enlarge if the high voltage goes down. The
term for this in the TV repair business is "blooming".

The problem they are having with these old diodes cause them to have a large
voltage drop, which causes them to heat, which causes the voltage to drop even
more. This causes the picture to enlarge.
