Hi all.
Back from a week of vacation, and have some tid-bits.
As mentioned earlier, I have an omega race mini project in the
works. Well, Paul (a vector lurker) dropped by last monday with a working
board set and monitor for me. We proceeded with the install. On boot, the
demo came up, but the game play was screwy. The play board came up, minus
the midle box. As soon as the ship was released, the screen went nuts with
vectors scrolling around. We put it in diagnostics and it pointed to a bad
ram at S3 or S2. Replaced the 2114 at S3 and she fired up fine. Woo Hoo!.
The sound then went screwy. It would play for a bit, then freeze. Sounded
like the cpu was getting hung. We swapped out the cpu and the 2 2114 ram
chips on it and the sound was fine. I had to blow out the spinner with some
compressed air, cause it was acting weird. It's fine now!
Then, the very next day, I was coming back from a trip to the zoo, and in my
subdivision, I spotted a couple of kids having a small garage sale down the
road (on a tuesday????). from 4 houses away, I spotted a small black box
with a vertical grey screen, Got home, dropped off the kids and wife and
walked back. Yup, Vectrex. 3 games (hyperchase, scramble and another,
plus, of course, minestorm). Is it working? Kids said yes. How much?
Kids said $17.50. I gave them $20, and they were right, it does work!
A good vector week.
Mike
