Has anyone ever seen or tried the NTE 527A as a replacement? I looked it up
in my NTE catalog (1995'ish) and it appears that the packaging is round and
closer to the size of the original H1812 than the SK7333. I don't know if
these are available anymore since they are no longer listed on the NTE web
site, but I was just curious if anyone has ever had a chance to try them.

No, it has a square cross-section instead of a circle and is about 100%
longer.
Just solder it in and cover the tips with HV RTV Sillicone (red).
