Why would it draw more current on the +5? They're separate circuits and so
whatever is dependent on the other voltages just wouldn't work. Would this
really affect the +5?

I hope I am wrong so you can stay in dream mode, but I want to make sure

04 is missing the +12 and -5 voltages.

Major Havoc uses an 04.

I put the AR II from my Major Havoc in my SW, and it went poof.

Looking at the wire lengths, I don't think I could have swapped J6 amd J9

the wires aren't long enough.  However, without +12 and -5 volts, I'll bet
the board drew more current on the +5, enough to fry the AR II.
And hopefully, not do much damage to the SW itself !
