that's the word..
ripples...
there's static rippling in the vectors, more noticeable on the shorter vectors.. in the longer vectors, the ripple is only for the first quarter of the line length.. its not a board problem, several boards look the same in it, and the boards in turn look ok on my test rig and in other machines.. :)
interesting you should say that about the resistors and stuff... you see, at some point there has been a small fire on the deflection board, several replaced components, and strangely, some component spaces not loaded, i can only assume they shouldn't be..
i'll whip the deflection pcb out tonight and put it on the flatbed scanner and post a link to the pic so you could see..
in the meantime, i can go thru the manual and check every component ugh :)
thanks!

That's one thing to try. I wouldn't think the transistor would cause vectors not to line up (but board adjustments would). And do any of your lines have ripples or zigzags in them? Either of these could point to either regular wirewound resistors being used instead of the non-inductive wirewound resistors in the yoke feedbacks (yoke to ground) OR a bad filter capacitor allowing high-voltage power supply noise to get back into the deflection circuits.

Try moving the BDW51C to the other 2N3716 position and vice versa. Does the problem shift? If not then it is on the game board, or the deflection amp on the monitor. Try the board in your friends machine to eliminate it...

Well, THAT'S kind of interesting! What is the difference between an SK3836 and
SK9134? They are both NPN power transistors in a TO-3 case, but beyond that I
don't know.
There is a common saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" that might apply
here. Does it work? Then leave it alone!
