Star wars sound problem

My Star wars has a problem with the sound having alot of static. I checked the
speakers and that not it. Some of the speech sounds muffled and a bit distorted.
When you turn the volume pot there is alot of static generated also. And it sounds
like only one speaker is putting out sound and its not the wiring or the speaker. I
checked already. Have any ideas?
