Yes, I did this a couple of times in the late '80s when we couldn't get
replacement original HV transformers for the Amplifone. The only thing I
had to do was make a dual-polarity 28-volt regulator, and I used the
circuitry in the WG manual for their deflection board to do it. Took only a
couple of transistors and a handful of resistors & caps. The resulting
picture was visibly shaky, but it worked. Fortunately we now have
replacement Amplifone flybacks.
